“Diva me up” is a term that comes from the 1950s, when a woman felt like she was not taking care of herself properly because of housework, caring for the kids, etc… So she would ask her husband for a day when she could “Diva herself up”. He would give her money (or his credit card) and she would go to all of her favorite places, from beauty salon to department store. Today’s woman doesn’t need a man’s approval or his money. But make no mistake, the concept of “Diva me up” hasn’t changed over the years…. Shortly before the COVID lockdown, ETVAS MAG’s Fashion/ Beauty experts discovered 4 places where the “Berlin Woman” goes to properly “Diva herself up”.

„Diva me up“ kommt aus den 50er Jahren, wenn Frauen das Gefühl hatten, wegen Hausarbeit und anderen Verpflichtungen nicht genug Zeit zu haben, um sich sich selbst zu widmen… Also wendeten sie sich an ihre Ehemänner und fragten nach einem Tag für sich – für „Diva myself up“. Die Männer gaben ihnen Geld (oder die Kreditkarte) und sie zogen los, durch all ihre Lieblingsläden vom Beauty Salon bis zum Einkaufscenter. Heute sieht das ganze natürlich sehr anders aus. Keine Frau braucht mehr die Zustimmung oder Geld eines Mannes, um sich das zu ermöglichen. Aber das Konzept von „Diva me up“ besteht bis heute… Kurz vor den Covid Lockdowns haben ETVAS MAG’s Fashion und Beauty Experten 4 Orte entdeckt, wo die „Berlinerin“ hingehen kann, um sich einen Tag voll von „Diva me up“ zu gönnen.

Our first stop was V.I.P.A. Lingerie Pop up Boutique in Berlin’s Ku-Damm District. Brooklyn Filmmaker Aaron Allred and model Bianca Delacruz give us a small sample of what you can expect from a trip to Knesebeckstr. 70, in Berlin’s Ku-Damm District.

THE SECOND STOP on the Berlin “Diva me up” is DODO’S BLOW DRY BAR in Berlin’s Mitte District. As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by owner Dominic, with a bottle of sparkling wine in one hand and a hair blower in the other…
